Music Journey
Although the Sense-ational Awakening project is based on the exploration and interaction of all five senses, Giulio’s musical background naturally pushes his overall holistic approach to lean heavily on the musical aspect, thus emphasizing the sense of hearing.

Music itself has many built-in triggers to influence certain moods and states of mind. The compositions are specifically articulated and based on predetermined music notes. The interaction of the musical instruments is planned with the aim at stimulating certain feelings. And the sequence follows the natural progression of well-being through our body, mind and soul by means of energy shifting.
Giulio has traveled to over 50 countries worldwide. He is the son of a late international executive, who exposed Giulio to different cultures, religions, languages and customs since an early age. Giulio’s “internationalization” made him very open to explore and study different musical roots and different meditational methods. Evidently, the Eastern practices (e.g. The Chakras) exemplified by Hinduism and Buddhism are a focus when dealing with well-being and meditation.
Giulio is of the opinion that the Chakras have a solid foundation in our body. The increase or decrease of energy of each Chakra affects our behavior, our physical well-being, and our psychological well-being as well. Energy shifts along the Chakras can be beneficial for most. Giulio has adopted this doctrine to enhance the power of his music within the hearing part of the Sense-ational Awakening experience.
Going into more details, there are different thoughts on how many Chakras, or energy points, are in the human body. Some ancient philosophies say five. Others say seven. Others even more. Chakras are “wheels” or “circles”, meant to be focal points used in a variety of ancient meditation practices, where through yoga, breathing exercises, visualizations, and other stimulation including sound, we manipulate the flow of subtle energy through these focal points.

The most common meditation doctrines adopt seven Chakras, starting from the lower part of the body and going up. This is the list:
- Root Chakra: Located in the tailbone. Associated with Security and Groundedness. Color Red.
- Sacral Chakra: Located in the lumbar and genital area. Associated with Creativity, Sexuality and Pleasure. Color Orange.
- Solar Plexus Chakra: Located in the abdomen. Associated with Courage and Discipline. Color Yellow.
- Heart Chakra: Located in the chest. Associated with Love and Compassion. Color Green.
- Throat Chakra: Located in the throat. Associated with Connection, Communication and Expression. Color Light Blue.
- Third Eye Chakra: Located in the forehead. Associated with Intuition and Wisdom. Color Dark Blue-Indigo.
- Crown Chakra: Located in the crown of the head. Associated with Spirituality, Faith and Excitement for Life. Color Violet.
Interesting enough, the correspondent colors are the same as those of the rainbow.
It is widely understood that sound can affect a person’s energy. Sound is represented by vibrations, which in turn are made of frequencies. Every different frequency is perceived in a different way, and our body reacts to it accordingly. Ultrasound waves are high frequencies, which are used in the medical field to cure illnesses. Giulio is a firm believer that specific frequencies affect and can heal our body and mind in a non-traditional fashion. Our body and mind react to frequencies differently. At times we may need more energy in one aspect of our life, and a specific sound frequency may help re-establish balance within that aspect.
Unsurprisingly, the seven Chakras have been matched with the seven main notes in the Western musical notation: C, D, E, F, G, A and B, which are all full “tones”.
- Root Chakra: C
- Sacral Chakra: D
- Solar Plexus Chakra: E
- Heart Chakra: F
- Throat Chakra: G
- Third Eye Chakra: A
- Crown Chakra: B
The sharp notes (C#, D#, F#, G# and A#), also known as “semitones”, are not associated with any particular Chakra.
Chakra’s references aside, it is also well-known that different feelings are provoked according to music played in major or minor chords. Minor chords tend to stimulate more introspective feelings. Major chords tend to be more joyous and upbeat. Clearly, the selection of chords and notes played together, and the sequence of those notes establishes a specific mood within us. Giulio’s tendency to carry compositions in minor chords is a testament of his attempt to rouse deeper feelings.

An interesting discovery relates to the analysis of ancient religious chants, mantras, Gregorian chants, and even more contemporary Christian prayers, they all are recited in the same fashion and tonality, emphasizing certain soothing sounds to facilitate worship concentration and meditation. Surprisingly, the sound is pretty similar in all religious backgrounds throughout the millenniums. There is a definite relationship between the power of sound, its notes, and its frequencies.
Understanding that sound frequencies (sound vibrations) have different effects on our body, soul and mind, Giulio and Eva have taken that principle in their own hands and have applied it to their music and to their playlist.
Starting from the first composition for Day One of the Sense-ational Awakening experience, Giulio begins with a piece in the C note, the root of our energy points, and then following the Chakras, he goes up the scale to D, E, F, etc. to encompass all seven notes, one a day, addressing all the energy focal points in relation with each of the seven Chakras. The crystal bowls emanate a distinct frequency that matches the desired note. One person may be more in need of a certain frequency to reset his/her balance, while another person may feel better if stimulated by another frequency. By covering all the main frequencies of the seven notes and seven Chakras, the goal is to broadcast those frequencies and let the audience assimilate what they need most. While the piano carries a structured melody and harmony, the bowls penetrate deep inside with their healing frequencies.
We plan two sound performance sessions per day. The morning one is based on compositions that have a predetermined sequence, counterpoint features, and interaction with the crystal bowls to enhance the assimilation of the note-specific frequency. The music is accompanied by visual effects and a predetermined scent. The evening performances are always based on a specific note, but unlike the morning, they are less structured, more improvisational, still surrounded by scents, but this time magically performed only at candlelight.
